Sex In The Bible: The Power of Sex...

Isn't it ironic that sex outside of marriage is a sin; however marriage without sex is also a sin? That which is created by and ordained of God and holds a sacred intent, cannot be profaned by humanity. In the bible, the authors referred to sexual intercourse between a husband and wife as "to know". I don't think that description could be more accurate. Through sexual intercourse, a husband and a wife begin to learn one another, thus "knowing=to know" one another.

I Corinthians 6:16 says- What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

Simply put when individuals participate in sexual intercourse, there is a mutual transference of spirits of the persons involved. Part of each person's spirit is transferred to the other person.

We can be certain that God, who created Sex, created it with a purpose in mind. One obvious reasons was for procreation. God told Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply" (Genesis 1:28). The only way that they could execute God's plan was through the method of sexual relations. An additional purpose for sex was for man and woman to learn intimacy with one another. The intimacy level that God wants mankind to learn can only occur between one man and one woman. As the husband and wife reach higher levels of intimacy, this prepares them for the intimacy that God wants with them.

He longs to have a close relationship with His children. Likewise, He wants you to have an intimate love relationship and friendship with Him. God desires us to spend time with Him and to communicate and enjoy fellowship with Him. He wants us to (submit) trust and follow Him. It is impossible to know someone you don't spend time with. Intimacy develops as a result of close contact with someone over a period of time. The intimacy that marriage allows is the template to our intimacy with God. As in a marriage, intimacy increases, trust is formed, and hearts are transformed, becoming endeared to one another. These characteristics are also developed in our relationship with God;

I Corinthians 7:5- Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

It is a sin for a husband or a wife to withhold sex from one another except if they agree to fast and pray. However, this should only be for a short time, so that they cannot be tempted of Satan to sin.

Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The intimacy that God desires cannot be obtained with multiple partners or with a person that isn't your (God approved) spouse.

We have to understand that Satan knows of the intimacy that God wants with His children. It is his plan to keep this intimacy from taking place. This is the reason why sexual sin is prevalent today. Satan's tactics to destroy God's plans are very active in today's society.

  • Fornication- voluntary sexual intercourse between two unmarried persons or two persons not married to each other.

  • Adultery- voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than his or her lawful spouse.

  • Homosexuality- sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one's own sex
  • Beastiality (Zoophilia)- is an affinity or sexual attraction by a human to a non-human animal.

What is said about sinful sex in the Bible?

There are several scriptures that address these sexual sins:

  • FORNICATION-1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

  • ADULTERY-Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

  • HOMOSEXUALITY-Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

  • BEASTIALITY- Leviticus 20:15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.

    • Leviticus 20:16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Isn't it ironic that in today's society, heterosexual marriages are ridiculed but there is a worldwide movement to have homosexual marriages legalized?

II Corinthians4:4 In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Satan is called the god of this (earthly) world and he plans to use whatever power he has to convince the world that these sexual sins are acceptable. The more people he can deceive, the more chances they will become involved in these sexual sins and fall from God's grace. Satan is also called the "prince of the power of the air".

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.

He uses whatever means he can to make these sexual sins spread; the internet porn sites, tv shows and movies, and magazines to name a few. We must also realize that as he continues to endorse and promote sexual sin, namely homosexuality, he will achieve another goal which is putting a stop to procreation. Two woman partners and two man partners can NOT bring forth life.

The more that we read God's word and seek to gain wisdom and knowledge, we can work towards having the intimacy that He desires with us.

Father, I greet you in the name of your son and our savior Jesus Christ. I thank you for providing us with your word that allows us to learn of you. We desire the intimacy that you desire and we vow to do what must be done to get it. We will examine our individual lives and our lives with our spouses to assure that it measures and lines up with your word. If we lack or have fallen short in any area, we pray that you help us to correct it. Again, we thank you and will continue to pray until the promised return of your son.

In Jesus' name. Amen

Preach it sister! Preach it as the prophecy of the end comes to pass ! America falling and failing as an ancient Israel once did, giving their sons and daughters to whoring !

The "wise" fools say there is no God. And now what was once considered wrong is made right and what is right is made wrong by legislation. All in the name of inclusiveness ! How the elect are deceived !

(Genesis 1:28)
by: John

Not trying to split hairs I know what you mean't, however God made man and woman and told them to be fruitful and multiply. Adam and Eve was not made yet. If you read chapter 2 of Genesis God talks about that he did not have a tiller of the field (Farmer). Also this blood line is the line that Jesus Christ comes through. So God had his plan, so for us to say that God made Adam and Eve first keep reading. When Cain Murders his brother Abel he tells him that he would find his mate that tells us that there was already people here.
Also in Genesis it talks about the forbidden fruit, I have been told my whole life it was a apple. It was sex, because satin was trying to destroy a Blood line because he knew that that was the blood line that Jesus would come through. If he could taint the blood line he knew that Jesus could not die on the cross for us, because he had to be a clean sacrifice

Please do etymology on the definitions of your words in particular, "adultery" and "fornication." You, and those who you are influencing will then have a more insightful and accurate understanding of the Bible's position on both.

Sex in the Bible

My husband and I have been married 45 years on February 06. We teach marriage enrichment classes at our home church because we know that God has called us to teach the younger married couples. The information provided on Sex in the Bible was thought-provoking as well as informative. It encourages you to make your marriage all that God wants it to be. Keep up the good work!

Where does it say that "not have sexual intercourse with your spouse is a sin?

I know that we dont belong to ourself, our bodies belong to our spouse but it sure is hard to be intimate and have sexual relations with your spouse when they are not nice to you, they dont help you, they yell at you. etc..
