In our women of the Bible lesson on Sarah, we talked about the danger of blaming God. Here is Myrtle's response to our reflection questions.
QUESTION 1: Have you ever caught yourself beginning to blame God for a particular situation? If so, why?
I do not blame God for a particular situation. I blame myself always. You see, everything that happens to me has a lot to do with my choices and so I must take full responsibility for them and not blame others.
QUESTION 2: What do you think the significance was of God changing Sarai's name to Sarah?
To my mind the significance of God changing Sarai's name is because He was preparing her for the great job to come i.e. being one of the persons from which Jesus came.
QUESTION 3: Were you surprise by Sarah's imperfections? Why do you think God never glosses over people's missteps in the Bible?
No, I was not surprised by Sarah's imperfections because no human being is perfect. As a matter of fact the only perfect human being that ever walked on planet earth was Jesus Christ. What I love in the entire story is one whereby God passed over the missteps by forgiving Sarah and still molding her to be what He wanted her to become. The same thing He did for Sarah He does for each and every one of us. We all falter from time to time but God is such a forgiving God that He willingly forgives our missteps and molds us to be what He created us to be.
QUESTION 4: Like the women in the Bible, what spiritual legacy would you like to leave for the future generations of women in your family?
The spiritual legacy that I would like to leave for future generations of women in my family is one on having total and complete faith in God knowing that faith in God can move many mountains. I know that as they let go and let God work in their lives, worlds and affairs, doors would open that seemed to them to be closed. Further, I know that as they use both belief and faith, no door would be closed for them that God wants to open.
